Subscription ticketing service has responded to theater chain AMC's move to launch their own competing plan. After experiencing explosive growth in 2017, spurred by a , MoviePass has now become a major player in Hollywood. The company has gotten so huge that they've even , purchasing a stake in the recent Indie movie American Animals, as well as the currently playing John Travolta gangster biopic .But the road to success did not come without some major speed bumps for MoviePass. From the beginning, theater chains were opposed to the service's model, which allows subscribers to pay a low flat monthly fee for admission to one movie per day. Conflict with chains spiked last year when MoviePass dropped their prices and began adding subscribers at a furious rate, with AMC Theaters openly criticizing the company's model, leading to in certain high-traffic AMC theaters.Related: Now the war between MoviePass and AMC is set to escalate. With more and more moviegoers looking at subscription-based ticketing as an option, by offering their own monthly service. For $19.99 per month, AMC theater-goers can sign up for Stubs A-List, giving them access to three movies per week including specialty formats like IMAX and 3D. Now MoviePass has responded to AMC's plans and of course they are trashing Stubs A-List. In a tweet, MoviePass pointed out certain flaws in the new plan:It's true that MoviePass costs only $9.95 per month, compared to Stubs A-List's cost of $19.99. It's also true that MoviePass works in multiple chains while AMC's plan obviously only works in AMC theaters. AMC also gives its Stubs A-List users access to just three movies per week, while MoviePass allows users to see one movie per day. However, AMC's plan will allow users to see their three movies all in the same day, while MoviePass limits its users to just the one. MoviePass does also plan to sweeten their service by , allowing subscribers to purchase a ticket for one other person.Though MoviePass arguably looks like it has the better deal as of now, there's good reason for them to be very worried about AMC launching its own service. With 2,200 screens, AMC is currently the biggest theater chain in America. Should AMC lure enough moviegoers over to their new subscription service, what's to stop them from completely blocking MoviePass, shutting out the service's subscribers in a huge chunk of the nation's theaters? For the record, AMC says they will continue allowing MoviePass for the time being. In addition to ticketing, AMC can also offer other perks MoviePass can't, including line skipping and concessions upgrades. Ultimately, the market will have to decide which deal is more attractive. In the meantime, look for more social media trash-talking as the subscription ticketing service war kicks into high gear.More: Source: The post appeared first on

Mark Strong may be preparing for a role in , based on a new video posted by his personal trainer. Strong, of course, is best known for playing villains in films ranging from Matthew Vaughn joints like Stardust and Kick-Ass to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and Andrew Stanton's John Carter. Naturally, the actor doesn't only stick to evil-doers and has portrayed the good guy in films like the Sacha Baron Cohen action/comedy The Brothers Grimsby and Vaughn's Kingsman comic book movie series. He's no stranger to the spy genre either, thanks to his roles in those latter films.Fittingly, Strong will be playing the antagonist yet again in next spring's DC superhero movie, It's looking like Shazam! won't be the actor's only tentpole effort in 2019 either, now that his trainer Giacomo Farci has posted a social media video indicating that Strong is getting ready to play a role in the next (and currently untitled) Bond film. But if that's the case, will Strong play a friend or foe to Daniel Craig's 007?Related: The clip that Farci posted to his Instagram account doesn't flat-out confirm that Strong is getting ready to play a role in James Bond 25. It does, however, show Strong hard at work getting in physical shape for a "new project". More importantly, Farci tagged the video with several Bond-related hashtags, including Craig himself, Bond 25, Danny Boyle (), and longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson. You can check out a screenshot of the video below ().Assuming Farci's clip means Strong is part of the Bond 25 cast, it's worth noting the video doesn't actually specify what his role will be. Strong could just as easily be training to play the main villain's muscle (similar to the role Dave Bautista tackled in the last Bond movie, 2015's Spectre) as he could be preparing to play the big bad himself, or even one of 007's fellow British secret agents. It's rumored that , indicating the character is written as a woman. However, since nothing has been confirmed on that front just yet, Strong shouldn't be ruled out as a contender for the film's main antagonist.Whatever the case may be, Strong would be a great addition to the Bond 25 cast. The caliber of talent circling the film is further a testament to Bond 25's potential to return the franchise to the artistic heights reached by Craig-led installments like Casino Royale and Skyfall, following the lukewarm reception to Spectre three years ago. With Boyle directing and Strong and Carter possibly costarring, Bond 25 might yet prove to be something special - and the perfect way for Craig to end his run on the franchise, as seems to be the plan.MORE: Source: The post appeared first on

There is a very clear reason many refer to as space fantasy rather than actual science fiction, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that science isn't one of the strong points of the Star Wars universe. Sure, TIE fighters and other Star Wars spacecraft look cool onscreen, but a new simulation proves just how useless they would be in the real world. It's no secret that the spacecraft seen in Star Wars movies were not inspired by realistic spacecraft. Instead, George Lucas found inspiration in the dogfighting planes of World War II. The rest he created from his own fantasy, so the spacecraft seen in Star Wars don't exactly work the way that real vehicles operate in space. Lucas even specifically focused on creating his own version of dogfighting sequences he saw in movies based on famous World War II battles. The spacecraft were not designed with space aerodynamics in mind. Instead, they are all part of a unique vision that brought Lucas' space fantasy to the screen.Related: YouTuber decided to put Star Wars vehicles to the test, though, at least as far as aerodynamics goes. He used 3D models of some of the most recognized ships in the Star Wars universe and put them in a simulation using a program called Flow Design. The simulation tested each vehicle's drag coefficient, the number that represents how much drag or resistance an object has in a fluid environment, in this case air and space. He then compared the Star Wars ships' drag coefficients to real life examples, including a actual fighter jets. The results were surprising in that the Star Wars vehicles were incredibly less aerodynamic than anyone would have ever guessed. wrote about his results:"Star Wars fighters on average have a drag coefficient somewhere around that of a flying sphere, which is to say: not great. The original X-Wing's drag coefficient is .45 to a sphere's .47. The T-70 from the current trilogy fares a bit better, with a coefficient of .24, a pretty significant improvement."So which Star Wars vehicle fared the worse? The TIE Fighter has a coefficient of .98, which is about the result of trying to fly a gigantic brick through space. However, Star Wars fans won't find themselves too upset about these results, because they already understand that this isn't a series based in science. Badly designed ships in dogfights and "pew pew" laser guns are part of what makes Star Wars so much fun.More: Source: The post appeared first on

MTV Studios launched to develop & produce reboots, originals for SVOD has announced it is launching MTV Studios in an effort to produce content for SVOD buyers, such as Hulu, Netflix, and Apple. Utilizing MTV’s own library of titles, the studio intends to develop and produce reboots and spin-off series including the already slated Daria & Jodie, Made, , and MTV’s groundbreaking reality series The Real World. On top of the revivals, MTV Studios will also focus on new shows said to be largely unscripted. The network released an MTV Studios opening sequence, which you can check out in the player below! Daria & Jodie is a reimagining of the MTV 1990 feminist series Daria. Written by Grace Edwards (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Inside Amy Schumer), the iconic animated franchise is reinvented through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closest friends Jodie Landon. These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender, and race. Aeon Flux is a live-action remake of the cult anime classic as the badass heroine assassin Aeon Flux teams up with a group of biohacking rebels in the not too distant dystopian future to battle a brutally repressive regime and save humanity. Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf, Criminal Minds), and Gale Ann Hurd (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead) are executive producing. The Real World invented modern reality television and is now returning to its roots. This reconnection to innocence for the trailblazing series strips away the polarization and cold anonymity of social media, the din of the 24-hour news cycle, and the facades of the instafamous culture to find out what happens “when seven strangers are picked to live in a house… stop being polite and start getting real.” Bunim-Murray Productions will produce alongside MTV Studios. Made was an Emmy-winning life makeover series on MTV that is now returning under MTV Studios. In a world of 2D Instagram transformations, Made pairs talented young underdogs with experts for face to face coaching for total life, real-life inventions. One of the new series being developed and produced by MTV Studios is The Valley. In the spirit of The Hills and The City, The Valley follows a group of attractive 20 somethings in a classic coming of age docu-series featuring first loves, relationships, and life decisions — with a twist. This group of young people is living in “The Valley” of Nogales, Arizona, a town along the border of the United States and Mexico. This is the real-life story of friends who are growing up on the edge of two countries, two cities as they share one Valley, their youth, and common bond. MTV’s Straight Up Ghosted is another new series that focuses on real stories and social media. While social media has connected the world more than ever, it has also undercut our ability to deeply connect and communicate. Today, critical relationship-ending conversations and confrontations have faded into digital dialogue or worse “ghosting.” Straight Up Ghosted explores real stories of real people who vanished by blocking them, and unlocks the reality and uncomfortable truth to satisfy the ultimate question — why did you leave me? Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, explains that the “thriving” cable platform “is a little more limiting than it used to be, so the stories that we tell on traditional cable are going to be very different than the stories that we would tell in SVOD.” McCarthy went on to say that the younger demo will be reached more on the SVOD partner platforms while the 20+ demo will remain focused on MTV’s cable network. “Things that are in the animation space, things that are in pure music longform, things that are in the teen and high school space — those are the things that we’re going to be looking more in the SVOD space. The traditional amplified and louder versions of unscripted reality, we’re going to continue to focus on that in cable,” the MTV president added. There is a possibility the newly launched MTV Studios — which has been in the works for about a year — could also reboot Beavis and Butt-Head for an SVOD platform, as well Unplugged which the studio will pitch towards a musically driven streaming platform. The shows being pitched for SVOD will be shopped to those platforms through Viacom. Currently the fastest growing network on TV, MTV’s primetime viewership has not only grown but so has its streams this year, garnering 2.9 billion and counting. The cable network also has more than 350 million global social followers. The post appeared first on .

Jack-Jack is the breakout star of , having no less than 17 powers of his own, and we're here to explain why that is. In Pixar's highly-anticipated sequel, Helen Parr is the super recruited by an organization to do hero work, while Bob stays at home to watch the kids. At first, Mr. Incredible thinks the job will be relatively easy, but he quickly learns he's walked into a responsibility he wasn't even slightly prepared for.Violet's dating woes and Dash's new math homework would be enough to put any parent over the edge, but the Parr family have a third child to look after: the adorable baby Jack-Jack. Unbeknownst to them, manifesting (audiences first saw them at the end of the original film). When Bob discovers the truth about his youngest, he's both thrilled and horrified by what this all means. Jack-Jack isn't like the Parr's other offspring, making him more of a handful than your typical infant. Just about all of the supers we've met in the Incredibles universe have a single power they control, but Jack-Jack's got many. What are Jack-Jack's Powers?Near the end of the film, Bob tells Helen that she missed Jack-Jack's first 17 powers. The takes things one step further by listing 18 powers for Jack-Jack. Here's the full list to date.Related: Superhuman strength and durabilityWall-crawlingPolymorphingTransforming into a demon babyTransforming into a fire babyTransforming into a giant babyMimicryTurning body into metalTurning body into rubbery substanceMolecular vibrationDuplicatingPhasingTeleportationInterdimensional travelLaser eyesGenerate electricityTelekinesisLevitationJack-Jack displays many (if not all) of these powers over the course of Incredibles 2, most notably during the now-famous sequence where he fights a raccoon. Obviously, due to his age, Jack-Jack has yet to master his abilities, so he requires a special suit that's prepared to deal with whatever happens. His Auntie Edna Mode (who gleefully agrees to babysit Jack-Jack when she discovers his powers) made one herself. The outfit seems to adapt to whatever form the baby takes; in the third act when Jack-Jack becomes a giant, his costume remains intact. Another handy feature is the blackberry-lavender flavored flame retardant. Why Does Jack-Jack Have So Many Powers? The easy answer to this question is because it's funny to see a baby exhibit so many different abilities and overwhelm his father. Fortunately, director Brad Bird went a little deeper than that for an explanation. Edna tells Bob Jack-Jack is a polymorph, which essentially means he has unlimited potential as he makes his way through development. Jack-Jack's set of powers also ties into Bird's approach when giving each member of the Parr family their specific power. It's reflective of Jack-Jack's personality as a baby, as the filmmaker said during a press conference we attended in April:Men are always expected to be strong, so I had Bob have super strength. Mothers are always pulled in a million different directions, so I had her be elastic. Teenagers are insecure and defensive, so I had Violet have force fields and invisibility. Ten-year olds are energy balls that can’t be stopped. And babies are unknowns. Maybe they have no powers, maybe they have all powers - we don’t know. That’s what Jack-Jack was; he was seemingly the most normal one in the family and then at the end of Incredibles, you find out he’s a wild card and he’s sort of the Swiss army knife of powers.Related: This is part of the reason why Bird opted to have Incredibles 2 pick up literally right after the events of the first film. He wanted to maintain the established dynamic of the family, which would be been impossible if the characters aged. Theoretically (unless polymorphism is permanent in this case), Jack-Jack could assume control of a single power as he gets older - one that connects to his basic personality. Since Dash is 10 years old in the movies, this likely takes place fairly early in childhood. By the time The Incredibles picks up, it seems like Dash has been a trouble-making speedster for years. It's possible Jack-Jack's evolving powers, but it remains to be seen if that film will ever happen. for the near future, and . Plus, he has no interest in a college-aged Jack-Jack, so this might be all we get.MORE: Source: The post appeared first on

Sony Studios has released an official statement regarding the recent controversy over a politically charged comment made by actor Peter Fonda on his personal Twitter account. This comes on the eve of the release of the film Boundaries, in which Fonda performs in a supporting role.First finding mainstream fame for his role as the biker called Captain America in the film Easy Rider (which he also produced and co-wrote), Fonda is well-known as an outspoken activist. The recent controversy centered around a tweet Fonda posted in response to a recent policy change by President Donald Trump, which required all people seeking entry to the United States along the Mexican border to be treated according to the standards applied to illegal immigrants, even if they were seeking to apply to enter the country legally by claiming political asylum. The public was outraged when it was revealed that the policy change was leading to the break-up of families and children being kept in cages and tent cities. This prompted Fonda to make a statement regarding President Trump's 12-year-old son and how he should undergo similar rough treatment.Related: Sony was quick to condemn Fonda's tweets and to note that they were not at all representative of the attitudes of their company in an official statement, which can be read in full below. Sony urged support for the film Boundaries, emphasizing how small Fonda's role is, and that it would not be fair to the other creators involved to punish them for Fonda's behavior."Peter Fonda’s comments are abhorrent, reckless and dangerous, and we condemn them completely. It is important to note that Mr. Fonda plays a very minor role in the film. To pull or alter this film at this point would unfairly penalize the filmmaker Shana Feste’s accomplishment, the many actors, crew members and other creative talent that worked hard on the project. We plan to open the film as scheduled this weekend, in a limited release of five theaters."Fonda, for his part, did apologize for his comments in an official statement released through his manager and publicist, as reported by the . Describing his comments as "highly inappropriate and vulgar," Fonda said that his Tweet was posted in the heat of the moment and that he realized he had crossed a line almost immediately."Like many Americans, I am very impassioned and distraught over the situation with children separated from their families at the border, but I went way too far. It was wrong and I should not have done it. I immediately regretted it and sincerely apologize to the family for what I said and any hurt my words have caused."This is not the first time Fonda has outraged the public with a political statement. He also courted controversy in 2011 after he called President Barack Obama a "traitor"for allowing British Petroleum personnel to oversee containment of the Deepwater Horizon oil-spill. Fonda objected to "foreign boots on our soil telling our military... what they can and could not do, and telling us, the citizens of the United States, what we could or could not do."While it seems unlikely that Sony Studios' statement or Fonda's apology would do much to head-off a boycott of Boundaries, it also seems unlikely that such a boycott would have much effect on the film's earnings. As Sony noted in their press release, the film is opening to limited release in only five theaters nationwide. As such, it was unlikely to be a major cash-cow for the studio and their defense of filmmaker Shana Feste and condemnation of Fonda would likely be seen as insincere by any offended parties - many of whom are demanding retribution akin to that for comments made on her Twitter account.More: Source: , The post appeared first on

Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant was offered the chance to appear in but turned down the role, the man himself has confirmed. Often considered the forefathers of rock music, Led Zeppelin are responsible for a catalogue of eternally popular songs such as "Stairway To Heaven," "Whole Lotta Love" and "Immigrant Song." Singer Plant was instrumental in the band's success, providing them with a soaring vocal range, a charismatic presence and some immersive, fantasy-based lyrics.HBO's hit show its eighth and final season ahead of a premiere sometime in 2019 and there's already plenty of speculation over the forthcoming shocks, deaths and mammoth battles that viewers have now come to expect from the series. Another feature of Game of Thrones that fans now actively look out for are the . From subtle appearances by Coldplay, Mastodon and Sigur Rós to the overt - and widely panned - , Game of Thrones has featured a variety of big names in cameo roles.Related: In an interview with , Plant revealed that he was offered the chance to appear in Game of Thrones but ultimately decided to turn it down. Asked whether he watched Thrones in his free time, Plant replied, "No. I got offered a part in that!" and when pushed on why he turned it down, he jokingly claimed:"Yeah, well I don't want to be typecast [laughs]. I started that sh*t off you know, go back to 'Immigrant Song' and Led Zeppelin being part of a cultural exchange in Iceland... [To publicist] What [part] was it, do you know? I thought I got to ride a horse and go [makes angry sneering face]. I hadn't got time to grow the beard really so, no, but I mean how silly."With his long, gray mane of hair and facial hair that would make a wizard jealous, Plant wouldn't exactly have to do much to blend in within Westeros and his affinity for fantasy fiction has been explored in Tolkien-inspired songs like "Misty Mountain Hop" and "The Battle of Evermore." It's certainly easy to see why Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss wanted Plant on their show. While he may not know the exact part he was offered, the singer would surely have made an excellent White Walker, resident of Winterfell or even a Wildling. For anyone familiar with Plant's career, it probably won't come as a huge surprise that the singer turned this particular gig down. Plant has always been reluctant to revisit former glories, resisting numerous Led Zeppelin reunions, and has generally eschewed the chance to turn his musical renown into celebrity fame. For much of their career, Led Zeppelin were also famously picky with allowing their music to be used in movies and TV shows - a stance that the constant use of "Immigrant Song" in modern movie trailers would suggest has now softened - so it's perhaps not a shock that Plant had no interest in making an appearance in Thrones.Benioff and Weiss likely knew from the start that the cameo was a long shot but Zeppelin fans would almost certainly have loved to see Plant feature in Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, instead of a rock and roll legend, they had to make do with from Sheeran.More: Game of Thrones season 8 is set to premiere in 2019 on HBO.Source: The post appeared first on

The Walking Dead showrunner confirms time jump for season 9 Fans of The Walking Dead comic series know that after the groups war with Negan there is a two year time jump in the storyline. So with last season’s finale, fans of the long running AMC series also have speculated that season 9 of will also jump forward in time. Now brand new showrunner, Angela Kang, has confirmed the time jump with . “We’re working on a season that has a really fresh look and feel,” Kang says. “We’re playing with time in this season, so we get to kind of jump forward in the story.” Kang also spoke about how the show is going to focus more on the core character relationships in the upcoming season, adding that season 9 will also present some intriguing story ideas for the women of the series. Not addressed however were the reports that the series, which is said to happen within the first six episodes of the new season. has addressed accusations that audience scores for the John Travolta film were artificially manipulated, saying they have found no problems with the suspiciously high score. Intended as a comeback film for Travolta, who reportedly had for his role, Gotti was released last week to almost universal critical derision. So bad was the film in the eyes of critics, score on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.Though critics hated Gotti, audience reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes were quite kind to the film, giving it (to date) a 64% positive score on an unusually high 7,000-plus reviews. This glaring discrepancy between critic and audience score, not to mention a seemingly inflated number of reviews, set off alarm bells with some, leading to accusations of deliberate manipulation. Speculation was further fueled after marketers for Gotti picked up on the critics vs. audiences narrative and .Related: Could someone involved with Gotti have launched a campaign to artificially boost the film's Rotten Tomatoes audience score? For their part, Rotten Tomatoes says they have found no evidence that anyone gamed their system to give Gotti a push. As they told :“We closely monitor our platforms and haven’t determined there to be any problems. All of the reviews were left by active accounts.”As claims of Gotti audience score manipulation picked up steam during the week, many eyes fixed on MoviePass, the subscription ticketing service that recently branched out by getting involved in film financing and owns a stake in Gotti. When questioned by Gizmodo, MoviePass denied knowing anything about possible Rotten Tomatoes shenanigans:“The MoviePass marketing team is only engaged in sending promotional emails and push notifications to our users. We have no further involvement from a marketing perspective and have no insight or information about who is providing the audience reviews to Rotten Tomatoes.”As Rotten Tomatoes has gained popularity and influence, more and more controversy has erupted over how the site arrives at its audience score, and the issue of whether that score is sometimes manipulated to help either boost or torpedo a film. Last year, freely admitted to creating burner accounts just to down-vote in hopes of lowering its score. Earlier this year, the Facebook group "Down With Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys" launched a campaign to drive down the audience score for .Given these known instances of internet trolls armed with keyboards deliberately hurting audience scores for movies, it's arguably not a stretch to think a clever marketing team armed with their own keyboards might engage in the same activity for the sake of boosting a movie's score and encouraging a few more people to buy a ticket. Either way, Rotten Tomatoes has something of a credibility issue on its hands. It will be interesting to see if Gotti experiences a boost at the box office thanks to all those possibly suspicious positive audience reviews. The movie is currently considered a flop after grossing .More: Source: The post appeared first on

Disney and Lucasfilm are moving away from the Story spinoff movies, but are they learning the wrong lesson? The Anthologies idea has been around almost as long as the sequel trilogy, with standalone Star Wars movies for Han Solo, Boba Fett and more first reported in early 2013. Two films deep, however, it looks like that plan is being - at the very least - encased in carbonite; the , with the studio now focusing on and the next trilogy (presumably Rian Johnson's).Much of the blame for the shift away from Star Wars Stories is being placed on . The franchise's , its production was mired by conflicting opinions on what it should be to the point that directors were changed and a high percentage of the movie was reshot. However, while the resulting budget increase - - that can't take away from the box office being so low. Its opening was below 's, and the drop off even more severe. It seems that the interest in exploring the original trilogy's past is not there.Related: However, this may not be the right lesson for Disney to learn. The production issues on both movies ( had a less public director imbalance) and Solo's financial struggles are certainly concerns and indicate some producing changes are needed, but the current failure of the enterprise may be that they simply picked the wrong stories to tell. This Page: Why Rogue One Succeeded But Solo Didn'tPage 2: Rogue One Had A Story, Solo Didn'tRogue One unequivocally worked. Despite no recognizable characters beyond a barely-in-it Darth Vader, it grossed over $1 billion worldwide and reviews were positive on a par to the main episodes. Even with oft-discussed that changed much of the third act and cut most of the prime trailer footage, the film has received mostly good press since release. The fact it was buoyed by the positivity coming off is certainly a factor, sure, Rogue One is still, by nearly all metrics, a good film.Crucially, though, it's also a story immediately worth telling. The Rebels' first victory against the Empire, the band who , and how Princess Leia escaped with them has been on Star Wars fans' minds since the first movie's opening crawl, and indeed was retold many times in the pre-Disney Legends. Rogue One was a key piece of Star Wars history that connected directly to the main episodes yet had characters and themes that existed in isolation from them.Contrast to Solo, which told us that the word "solo" means "solo". The film's goal is abstract and self-explanatory - how did Han become who he is - and so lacks the same information hook. There's plenty of things that must have happened in his past, yet do any of them warrant genuine curiosity? That question has double the weight given how Disney were never quite sure where to go with it; the biggest "reveal" that got the project green-lit was how where the , and behind-the-scenes concept art reveal an ever-changing story. That the Kasdans and Ron Howard delivered a worthy story in the end - Alden Ehrenreich's battle with idealism is a worthy precursor to Harrison Ford's stoic entrance in the original trilogy - is certainly impressive, but did little to redeem the pitch to many audiences.Related: We have two idealistically opposed films here, and only one appeared to be the future.Page 2 of 2: The post appeared first on

boasts the biggest budget in the franchise, but despite that has almost broke even before it opens in the United States. While the film opens in the U.S. on June 22, it has already made .The budget of Jurassic World 2 was , over $100 million more than Jurassic World. However, this was refuted by the producers and Box Office Mojo now reports that the film's budget is $170 million, only $20 million more than the original.Related: While $170 million is significantly lower than initial reports, it still makes Jurassic World 2 the most expensive Jurassic film to date. All Jurassic film budgets are given below, including both the production cost at the time and the cost adjusted for inflation:Jurassic Park (1993):$63 million (adjusted: $109.76 million)Jurassic Park 2 (1997): The Lost World: $73 million (adjusted: $114.72 million)Jurassic Park 3 (2001):$93 million (adjusted: $132.82 million)Jurassic World (2015):$150 million (adjusted: $158.69 million)Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom (2018):$170 millionLike many other film franchises, the film's budgets become incrementally bigger, both because of inflation and a desire to expand on previous films. Jurassic World 2's increase in budget is part of a larger trend that began with The Lost World.Earlier this year, 's extensive reshoots caused its , making it the most expensive Star Wars film of all time. It looks less and less likely that Solo will earn back its gigantic budget at the domestic box office. In contrast, Jurassic World 2's $170 million budget has easily been earned back at the international box office, signaling that the film will have a successful run despite . Already, the film is being celebrated as a commercial success. But would if its budget had been $260 million like Solo? The higher budget would have at the very least put more pressure and scrutiny on the film's performance. Jurassic World 2 is hardly a low-budget film like recent successes like (with an estimated budget of $20 million) or (estimated budget $4.5 million), but if film producers compare the performances of Jurassic World 2 and Solo, they may take away an important lesson for future films: even blockbusters can benefit from a tighter budget. The original Jurassic World brought in a $208 million in its opening weekend and grossed a total of $1.67 billion dollars worldwide. Jurassic World 2 may not match those numbers, but it's at least off to a strong start.More: Source: The post appeared first on

More female-centric stories are coming to season 9, new showrunner Angela Kang teased. On the brink of a major change with the , Andrew Lincoln (Rick), while Norman Reedus (Daryl) steps up to the plate and become the newest face of the show, The Walking Dead season 9 is already intriguing a lot of fans who are itching to know what happens next after Negan's reign. Much like in the comics, the upcoming season, but specific plot details are scant at the moment. Regardless, fans can look forward to the series' heroines taking center stage.RELATED: Speaking with , Kang hinted about what fans can expect from The Walking Dead's ninth year, and it seems like the future is female for the AMC juggernaut series."We're going to see some really great stories with the women on our show, particularly. And I think for people who are really invested in say Michonne, Maggie, Carol, there's such great material for them as well as, of course, Rick and Daryl, and those other characters that we love, but for people who are looking for that specifically they will really see some incredible work from our women."The new showrunner, who has just been promoted earlier this year despite having worked on the post-apocalyptic show since its sophomore season, also spoke about what it means for her to oversee such a popular TV series. "I'm so humbled by the opportunity to work on a show that's been such a juggernaut and that is so beloved by millions of fans around the world," she said at the panel's start. "It's not lost on me that for a lot of women who watch the show and watch the strong women characters on the show, and dress up as those characters, people are looking for role models," she said.Kang, however, did not mention the forthcoming set-up for Lauren Cohan who may have signed on for The Walking Dead's next season, but opposite Scott Foley. It's still unclear how the actress will juggle both jobs considering that it appears like she's going to play prominent roles in both, but previous reports have suggested that Cohan is in the AMC series than she would normally be in.This is somehow contradicting to Kang's statement as Maggie's arguably the most suitable female character to be at the forefront of a female-driven The Walking Dead season 9. Obviously, other established players like Michonne and Carol can also serve that role, but given Maggie's personal arc since Glenn's brutal death, she should officially take charge of her own community. While this could still happen, it's doubtful that it would be a major focus in the series' upcoming outing if Cohan won't be appearing in many episodes.MORE: Source: The post appeared first on

San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H will soon see its fair share of horror, as both and will have panels at the venue next month. Glass and Halloween are among the most highly-anticipated sequels in Hollywood right now, and it will no doubt be interesting to see what type of reveals will be made at their respective panels. Glass is a sequel to M. Night Syamalan’s Unbreakable, while Halloween is the next film in the Halloween franchise (and a direct sequel to John Carpenter's original 1978 film). Both films have deep ties to SDCC, so it’s fitting that they will each be making an appearance at the convention before they release later this year and early next year. Halloween’s lead Jamie Lee Curtis regularly attended SDCC for her FOX series Scream Queens, while Glass director M. Night Shyamalan screened his film, The Visit, in 2015. Plus, Halloween's titular villain is an iconic pop culture character going back 40 years.Related: reports that Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures will host Hall H panels for both Glass and Halloween at San Diego Comic-Con next month. While Shyamalan has used the convention to debut his films before, attendees shouldn't expect the filmmaker to do so again with Glass this time around.Glass follows the events of Shyamalan’s 2016 thriller, Split. The film stars Bruce Willis’ character from Unbreakable, David Dunn, who is on a mission to . Samuel L. Jackson’s antagonist from Unbreakable, Elijah Prince aka Mr. Glass, will also return in the new film. With characters from both Split and Unbreakable making appearances in the film, Glass represents a unique Hollywood project. Since both of those films were produced by different studios, to bring the sequel to life on the big screen.Halloween, meanwhile, was a different beast altogether. David Gordon Green’s latest installment of the Halloween franchise revives a series many fans thought was over and done with. The film will also bring back one of horror’s most iconic final girls: Jamie Lee Curits’ Laurie Strode, as she faces off against Michael Myers one last time. Halloween will ignore some of the franchise’s previous sequels, removing the in order to keep the air of mystery that surrounded the figure of Meyers in the original film. Fans of Carpenter’s original film can also expect to see some of the director’s influence in this latest installment. Halloween screenwriters Green and Danny McBride consulted with Carpenter on their script and followed Carpenter’s direction Although neither Glass nor Halloween 2018 are of the typical superhero, fantasy, or sci-fi genres that usually fill SDCC, convention-goers are sure to be excited over the announcement that both titles will have panels. The news is especially exciting after HBO revealed last week that it would be leaving this year’s Hall H empty this year, with with their own panels next month. Fortunately, Universal and Blumhouse swooped in to save the day and will be providing their own panels for convention-goers to enjoy.More: Source: The post appeared first on
