Season 2 of CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery will bring stand-up comedian Tig Notaro on board for a guest starring role, though she probably will be too busy to deliver too many punchlines. The series is busy prepping for its next run of episodes and has been busy making deals in the offseason, adding more familiar faces to the cast and casting at least one major character from Star Trek lore with former Inhumans star Anson Mount stepping in as Captain Pike. In addition to performing stand-up, Notaro is a regular fixture in both film and television, having had roles on ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, TV Land’s The Jim Gaffigan Show, and Netflix’s recently canceled Lady Dynamite. She’s also had roles in films like Walk of Shame, as well as Lake Bell’s In a World, and can be seen in the upcoming Dog Days, directed by Ken Marino and Instant Family, alongside Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg. In addition to stand-up specials like Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro and Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted, she is probably best known for her starring role in Amazon’s critically acclaimed but sadly canceled One Mississippi, which she also co-wrote and produced.

As reported by Deadline, Notaro will play Chief Engineer Denise Reno from the crew of the U.S.S. Hiawatha on season 2 of Discovery, though it didn’t say how many episodes she is expected to appear in. In fact, details on Reno are pretty scarce all around, as little is known about the character aside from who’s playing her. That isn’t too surprising considering its a guest role, though interest in the news of Notaro making an appearance on the series might see some additional details come to light.
